New tyre sponsor! -- VEE RUBBER -- ! 2011-11-11

As you might already have noticed by the logos on the page I got a new sponsor! I'm super stoked to announce that from now on I will try to touch the ground as little as possible on Vee Rubber tyres! Here's the link to my portrait. Thank you guys for the support!

If you're into Enduro at all you may wanna check my friends at Terra X-Dream! Thank you, Joe!

© Alex BoyceAfter seeing my Daboot buddies for the first part of their annual videoshoot which unfortunately saw my longtime buddy Jader get hurt on a dirt hip I was invited to attend the press conference for National TV's announcement to blow up ORF Sport Plus to a full-fledged channel.

Press conference

The week after I followed my sponsor YART's call to join the team for a 4 hour 50cc offroad race at Route 69. Me and Igor Jerman teamed up and when the 4 hours were over we had won the 50cc air-cooled 4 gears max class by a 13 round lead and even beat everyone else in the open class as well! Not so bad for a full-time freestyler haha!

Thank you, Mandy, it was super funny!

Next up was the Ackerrennen in Turnau whch my buddy Hans Leitner and friends are putting on every year. I bettered my 14th place from last year and came up only 1 spot short of the 8 guys final! Super much fun, thanks guys, I'll be back next year with some more Enduro experience hehe!

Warmed up like that I left the EU and spent a week in the Ukraine to ride some deserted mountains in the Carpathians which was the most beautiful riding I've ever done...

Ukrainian CarpathiansUnfortunately my buddy broke a rib right away on the first day of riding so I was on my own pretty much for the whole stay. Heal up fast man!

Got myself into all kinds of trouble by not being able to read cyrrillic letters which are pretty much everywhere, almost getting stuck in the wild numerous times and mixing daylight times up after turning the clock back and only making it back in complete darkness with no light on the bike... perfect trip haha!

Now I'm just getting used to steel take-offs again, on Sunday I'll ride a demo in Italy. That's it for now, hope you enjoyed my report, check back soon for the latest news...

What else? 2011-11-09

Like every year Martin Koren's Horsefeathers FMX Jam in Prague was so much fun, it always goes by way too fast. For shooting the freeriding part Martin had organized a heli for the first time which was such a blast! Check the pictures...

Summer overview 2011-10-13

A couple days after Metalfest I was asked to be the first guy to jump a motorcycle into a Bagjump near Innsbruck. Was a cool experience and we all had an awesome time - thanks to Martin Rasi and all the guys helping out!

On the way to the Sony Ericsson Freestyle Contest in Bratislava I stopped by in Vienna to say hi to the Monster only to be grounded by the Master-of-Desaster Gertsch so thoroughly that I was barely able to even ride practice next day 5pm... thanks Gertsch!

There were a lot of strong riders present, the most illustrious one being the Godfather himself, Mike Metzger. His bike parts and gear didn't arrive at the airport so Mike was rocking in Jeans, T-shirt, borrowed boots and a stock bike. Unfortunately he had to pay the toll to the high stock seat when his feet got tangled and he went down hard.

Mike's a beast though and impossible to hold down for long so he's already back in the saddle after another big crash only six weeks after Bratislava...

I did my first nac flips so I went home happily.

Recap 2011-10-08

LiberecThe busy season is drawing to an end so it's time to give you an overview what happened the last months.

In May I was riding the FMX Games in Liberec where I crashed on one of my first nohand flips because I felt I didn't need to close the steering stabilizer in my contest run. Breaking my clutch lever in the process my run was over but I still managed to ride back and pull the trick off clean before getting stitches to my forearm.

Catching up... 2011-04-06

© IFMXFAll the current updates I post on Facebook these days, for all of you who missed that this is what went down this year so far...

Coming to Linz to ride the Night of the Jumps I had something to prove as I hadn´t been happy with my riding at the stop in Vienna. With super- and indy flips and some technical onehand take offs I finished 9th and 8th placing in front of my young fellow countryman both nights.

© Patrick Reich2 weeks later I was riding a show on snow in Kaprun where I had destroyed my shoulder the year before and thus my season 2010 on an underrotated flip.

Ski resort shows always make for harder riding conditions than usually and the bikes are running weak. So I was pretty nervous not to make the same mistake again but held my shit together.

IFMXF World Cup Vienna 2010-12-03

Last weekend I rode the World Cup in Vienna, unfortunately it all went off to a bad start. Monday night before the event I traditionally arrived at my buddy Libor Podmol´s place who has helped me out already so often in the past he´s starting to feel like a big brother sending good vibes my way and getting me through the nervous times when we´re riding big events together! :) cheers, my friend!!

Tuesday though, it was raining all day so we hit up my buddy Petr Simak from Slim Grafix to pimp up my bike and van with the brand new Monster design which is looking wicked! After dinner with Martin Koren and Alastair Sayer we went to sleep being pretty optimistic to at least do a couple jumps into the pit the next day only to wake up to heavy snowfall! There went my last practice chance making it only 2 dozen jumps I was able to do into a foam pit the whole year.

In Friday´s practice I had to learn the hard way that my kind of step-up setup at home has to be flipped completely different than any other standard setup. If any, I used to have problems with underrotating but after flipping my step-up at home so much the last months I was fighting to keep myself from pulling too hard. One of my first flips I overrotated hurting my shoulder and thumb and couldn´t ride the show that night anymore. Next day I was able to ride with painkillers and a pair of lent Botswana shorts but with missing half of the practice the day before and my confidence still a bit crippled I had to scratch all plans about big flip combos.

After the messed up first day I was happy with my run on Saturday where I managed to put together 9 tricks where I had only tried 3 of them in practice. It included a one hand take-off to rock solid I had never done before (on the 9m that I didn´t even trick in practice) and a shideshow on the superkicker I haven´t jumped for years. Both my flip tricks though I didn´t land 100% clean as I missed the left foot peg on one and came up a bit short on the other. Since I had tricks to all sides of the bike on all the ramps on the course including whipped tricks and a technical bar combo on the 24m gap I felt pretty underrated by the judges even though I didn´t do any big flip combos. Anyway, being pissed off about my result is just pushing me harder to come back swinging - hopefully already at the IFMXF Night of the Jumps in Linz in January!

Everyone was riding super strong with Brice Izzo taking home the win Friday night and Libor "The Ninja" Podmol taking revenge on Saturday. Going into the final World Chamionship tour stop next week in Brazil Libor is leading on Brice by a mere 6 points! Can´t wait to see that final battle of 2010!

Unfortunately a couple friends went down, most notably William van den Putte underrotating a Tsunami flip who was taken straight to intensive care and Remi Bizouard not coming back all the way after a huge turndown - all the best and a quick recovery!

Thanks a lot to my sponsors Monster Energy, MP Suspension, Skullcandy, GoldenTyre, Auner, DVS, Mex925.cz, Forty8.de, RocStompa and Cage Fight Series that are giving me great support!

And cheers once again to my buddy Paco for the shots, Gerhard Mayr for the last foam pit practice and my family and the Monster MAT team Austria for backing me up!

Unfortunately the second round of the Czech FMX Championship in Liberec which was supposed to go down this weekend was postponed "due to too many top Czech riders being unavailable"which leaves me with more time to get ready for the World Cup in 2 weeks!

Monster is having a huge snowboard and freeski festival in the heart of Budapest from Thursday to Sunday called Budapest Fridge - check it out if you can!

And inside the current issue of Reitwagen there is a 4 page story about me with loads of sweet shots that my buddy Paco took, so make sure not to miss that either!

Damn... 2010-08-05

...3 1/2 months since my last update!

As you may have noticed most of my everyday news I now post via my Facebook account. Important stuff I´m still gonna post on here though.

My next event after NotJ in Graz was the Czech Championship in Karlovy Vary, altough at that point it was already pretty clear I had to do something about my shoulder subluxating time and time again on all of the bigger tricks. So I took it easy there, putting on a fun show for the crowd and started straight from my run into the afterparty with no one less than the Original Pimp from Tschörrmännii Marc Fischer! By that time HIS party had long since begun, in the end I ended up with chewed up earbuds (thanks yous Herr Fischer) and a brand new Skullcandy sponsor deal! Thanks yous very much Herr Fischer! And thanks to Martrin Koren and the rest of the crew for the invitation! I´ll be back for more, Czech!!

© Paco Reich

Next stop was Oberholzham where I did a sweet contest with my buddies Ilkka, Jader, Brano, Gerhard and Dennis Garhammer. At the afterparty I was playing guitar to Enter Sandman on stage in front of a crowd for the first time which was so cool hahaa! Had a hard time hitting the notes right since at that time of night I could already see at least 100 frets on the guitar but I somehow managed... \mm/

© Peter Ortmann

The whole event went down perfectly, thanks a lot to the greatly organizing firefighter crew of Oberholzham! See you all again next year!

© Peter Ortmann

It took like 29 different examination procedures to figure it out but in the end my doc Gert Schippinger agreed to check surgically what was wrong with my shoulder which just kept moving out of its socket. So 3 days after the show I was back under the knife once more this time I´ll spare you some juicy pictures. Thanks for some great work as always, Gert!

sorry, no clue who shot this...

3 weeks later I was already putting my Ghost freeride bike to full use doing downhill runs every day. After 5 weeks I was back on the bike and last week I was already riding my first show hitting up Prague once more to celebrate Martin Koren´s Horsefeathers FMX Jam! The thing is getting bigger and better every year, if you missed the action... damn you! Make sure to mark it red in your 2011 calendar!

Thanks for making it happen again, Martin, hope you can focus more on the riding and partying with us next year! :)

sorry, no clue who shot this...

My buddy Petr Simak from Slim Grafix finished my new lid just in time for the show, so finally I´m back on a custom painted helmet. It turned out damn sweet, check it!

Now I´m getting ready for the show in Grosshartmannsdorf next week which must be the only show I haven´t missed in like 6 or 7 years in a row! I still have to take it a bit easy on my shoulder for another 4 weeks, after that it´ll be back to business!

Stay tuned!

Recap 2010-04-20

© Patrick ReichThe Night of the Jumps 2010 in Graz is history so it´s time to fill you in what went wrong lately...

3 weeks ago I was hitting ramps for the first time after my crash and even after my shoulder gave way at the first extended hart attack I did I was still positive I was gonna bring back my tricks in time for the comp. On Monday before the event I teamed up with my buddy Martin Koren and went to our Italian OG amico Alvaro Dal Farra´s place in Belluno to get ready for what was lying ahead.

Even though Alve´s still recuperating from a huge crash last year and not back on the bike yet, he organized everything for us so we had a perfectly maintained park to ride and even woke up his foam pit from winter´s sleep so I could do my first rotations after going down in Kaprun.

Everything was looking good, I had at least worked my way up to small double grabs and was hoping to come back swinging with a couple of flip combos I havent´yet brought to dirt. I knew my shoulder would make problems on pulling back from grabs with the arm high above the head but I wasn´t prepared for it to give way again when I pulled off the ramp for my first flip! Rotation was good but even though I was able to do 4 or 5 more my confidence was crippled. I had hoped to mostly ride the pit at Alve´s place but when the arm hurt pretty bad the day after I knew it would be stupid to go upside down on dirt 2 days later.

I was still confident to at least put in a performance which was worthy of the IFMXF series. Together with Martin I rode every day leading up to the weekend and at the first practice in the hall on Friday I was feeling pretty ok on the course even though the jumps felt so strangely small it was real hard for me not to overjump...

Martin put in a solid ride and qualified for the main event and I even did my first onehanded take-offs for years after I had had a huge crash in Italy where I nearly missed the Daboot mobile landing my a mere 20 cm and jumped down the side of the landing only to wash out on the edge of the pavement and hit a park bench straight on...

I started my run with a couple of small mistakes and on my third jump did a nice onehanded take-off to double hart which is a trick I haven´t been doing probably since 05 and was pretty surprised to get out of the ramp so straight and high into the grab from the seatbounce, but the extra-extension was obviously a bit too much and my arm shifted again in its socket. I knew my run was over before it had even properly started but I didn´t want to go out that way so I got back on the bike and hit the biggest gaps on the course throwing some whips and nacs that I knew my shoulder could take.

For the second day of the competition I now even had to scratch the double grabs which left me with tricks for my run that I have been doing for ages and never thought I´d do in a contest anymore... the only grab trick besides a seatgrab indy I felt was possible was a double indy since I´m doing those without much shoulder extension but with a onehand take-off it was still scary to pull off. After everything was over I was glad I was still in one piece I´ll just have to figure out now how to stabilize my shoulder since I´m not planning to stick to nofoot cans for the rest of the season!

Thanks to my girl, family, friends, doctors and therapists who supported me so much! Special thanks to Alve, Paco, Kaili and Andi!

What´s been happening? 2010-03-16

Wish I had better news but things went a bit awkward again.

After spending 2 superb months at home training my ass off I did my first shows of the year at the "Nacht der Ballone" in Zell am See and Kaprun at the end of January. Everything was going well until I underrotated my first big flip ever.

Landing upside down on hard packed ice is just about as nice as you would imagine it to be. Thanks to my hard work-outs all winter nothing got broken or torn but pain in my shoulder is still keeping me off the ramps. Last week I was riding MX again and as soon as Italy sees some sun I´ll start kicking my tricks out of their winter sleep for the Night of the Jumps in April!

Check out the crash here. (danke für das Video, Leo!)

I was shooting MoD in Vienna and Graz again, will post some of the shots in the next days!

As I will be the only Austrian rider competing in the IFMXF again "Der Reitwagen" is running a 2 page spread about me in their current issue - go check it out!

Stay tuned

Again it´s been some time.... 2009-12-16

It´s snowing outside now already for a couple days so things are finally quieting down... time to do a quick recap of what happened since my last entry.

(c) www.ursusadventure.ro

© nagy melindaTogether with Gerhard Mayr and Brano Niks I did a sweet show at the Ursus Alcohol Free Track event in Cluj Napoca / ROM. Apart from the always-scary car-drive to get there everything turned out sweet being perfectly organized! Looking forward to be back next year but this time for a PROPER afterparty hahaa!

A couple days after returning home I took another 1.600km drive west to stay with my buddy Remi Bizouard. After a couple of days even Brice Izzo dropped by for some practice with the boys finishing 1st and 2nd the following weekend at the IFMXF in Riga! Needless to say the riding level was pretty wicked... :)

Merci beaucoup for the great time and practice, Remi! And congrats on the World Championship crown! Looks like you really listened to all my advice hehehe!

In October I was invited to ride the Night of the Jumps World Championship event in Zagreb, unfortunately the contest was cancelled a couple days before due to security reasons.

Since then I´ve been keeping myself busy pimping my compound, spending lots of time on tracks, riding enduro in Slovakia, downhilling and hitting the gym. Unfortunately the New Year´s show in Fiss ain´t gonna happen in 2009 so my next appearance will be at the Nacht der Ballone in Zell am See in January. Anyone being in the zone drop by, have some Vodka Gröbi and be happy! Til then thanks a lot to my sponsors Black Flys, DVS, Forty8.de, Ghost Bikes, GoldenTyre, Injoy Graz Ost, Mex925.cz, MP Suspension, Ogio, Roc Stompa and SixSixOne and merry X-Mas to you! Peace.

It got a bit more quiet around here so.... 2009-09-17

...so it´s time to fill you up on the happenings the last weeks. After the show in Grosshartmannsdorf I took some time off for vacation with my girl. Doing a road trip through Italy, France and even Monte Carlo (grazie per tutto, Davide! Sei il Presidente!! :) ) I did 1 show right next to Miki Monti´s hotel in Lido di Savio together with Miki (thanks Miki, nice work on those first mobile landing flips after your injury!), Bianco, Vanni and Carlo.

Fot the weekend after Petr Kuchar had invited me again to his annual FMX jam. Last year he had introduced a 14m radius-3.80m high-monster ramp that we jumped on 30m distance. Since I´m not so interested in straight tricks at the moment my whole goal for the weekend was to flip the big one which was pretty scary since I haven´t ever flipped in 3rd gear let alone 3rd gear wide open. This is how it went (díky moc, Robyn for the sequence shot!):

The last 2 weeks I took the time to ride my Ghost freerider down the mountains, work on my wakeboarding skills (Thanks Kaili - no broken ribs this time hehe!) and party with my buddies. Next week it´s time to spend some exciting time in the car again as I´m doing a show in Romania after that I´m planning to hit up Remi in France for some warm-weather-autumn riding!

Thanks for tuning in! Peace.

I finally took the time to finish building the sequence that Christoph took when we were riding Jan Brabec´ freeride place before the Horsefeathers Jam. Thanks for the shots, Christoph!
